Member: YI KWANG HANG Dwarf

Name: Thorek Gurrksunn
Race: Dwarf
Homeland: Kraka Drak

Profession: Runesmith
Weapons:Thorek carries an axe which was embedded with runes by his father, a great Runelord and Thorek's master in Runesmithing. The axe is a double-edged battle axe with a think and quite heavy steel rod for a handle. The end of the handle is adorned with a spike with four flat sides, curving inwards to a point. The head of the weapon is almost a full circle, save for the triangles missing from the top and bottom and the edge is razor-sharp.
Equipment:Except for his Gromril and a number of runes, Thorek carries very little. The only other possesions he holds are a runic medallion, empowering him with a finer and more precise feel for the earth, allowing him to detect oncoming opponents way before most dwarves. The other is a necklace belonging to his mother. It is crafted of the finest gold and is studded with a single Ruby, about the size of a baby humans palm, and cut flat.

Age: 130
Gender: Male
Height: 5'3"
Appearance
Thorek has dark red/brown hair and a moderately long beard of slightly darker colour. He is a stocky character, though not as built as some dwarves of his age. He is quite trusting for a Dwarf and has a surprising amount of respect for Elves. He has a subtle dislike of humans, mostly aimed at Bretons, but is generally a friendly and loyal companion. Though he takes a grudge as seriously as the next Dwarf.

Personality
When in a situation of dire need or when filled with a vengeance, Thorek's appearance changes ever so slightly. His hair and beard lose their brown colour and become more red and his eyes lose their brown also, becoming a subtle blue. These are characteristics of his brother Gormrim, though he does not by any means adopt his brothers features.

History
Thorek is a twin, born in Kraka Drak. When he and his brother, Gormrim, were 50 years old, their parents proposed they move to Bretonnia, following the example set by their friends who travelled to the Old World to work long ago. The four of them set of on their journey, eager to bring their trade to Bretonnia and looking forward to a change of scene. Though Thorek was fond of their society, his parents, especially his father, had wanted to travel the land for some time.

There journey across the Badlands was quite uneventful. They had little hassle from greenskins or any other foe who would do them wrong. Near Tilea they met with a caravan party of Bretons, heading home after trading with camps along the east border of Tilea. The dwarves joined the men, and spent a number of days in their company.

After journeying briefly round the Border Princes, they began to head through Winters Teeth Pass. It was here that the caravan party turned out to be nothing but bandits. Camping in the foothills of the mountains, Thorek's parents were murdered and Thorek and his brother were tied up and left in the back of the caravan. The Bretons took the armor and clothes of the two dead dwarves, leaving them naked face down in the dirt. As a way to torment the two brothers, they even tied off the father's beard and the mother's hair, cutting each off and keeping them as a souvenir and a means of grief for the brothers.

The caravan took the dwarves across the World's Edge Mountains, avoiding the Silver Road past Karaz-a-Karak. Upon entering the Dark Lands on the other side, they set up camp in the south-west. The dwarves heard their plan to sell them to Chaos Dwarves as slaves. They also discovered that the Bretons had not lived in the Old World for some time, and were part of a tribe of Dark Men living in the Southlands.

That night, while the bandit's sat around a fire and drank the last of the ale pillaged from Thorek's family, the brothers began their escape. Gormrim spent over an hour gnawing at Thorek's bonds, careful of anyone entering the caravan to check on them. It took time and effort but he managed to free his brother. Thorek told him to stay put and began rummaging through the chest, retrieving the rune-engraved medallion of his father and the necklace of his mother. He also retrieved his Axe, which hung from a rope tied to the ceiling, out of reach of a dwarf bound. Thorek pulled down his weapon and beg an to saw through the many ropes around Gormrim's wrists and ankles.

It was then that a man walked opened the door at the back and saw what was happening. Unable to finish what he was doing, Thorek lunged at the man, viciously slicing across his torso, flesh and blood pouring out of his shirt. Thorek's eyes burnt with vengeance and he leaped from the Caravan and began to butcher the bandit's. Seeing this, the driver, already at the reigns, whipped his horses and the caravan leaped forward. Thorek turned and chased, but his legs could not keep up with a horse. His rage doubled and he turned to the last two men, his entire aura aflame with hatred.

After painfully and slowly hacking the bandit's apart, Thorek was left stranded in the Dark Lands, his family captured or dead and everyone else he knew miles away across mountains.

Thorek travelled the Dark Lands for almost a month, searching for the place that his brother had been taken. After a few weeks he found a campsite, out of sheer luck. The camp was run by a group of Chaos Dwarves, who had a small number of Orcs and Goblins under their command. Thorek kept his distance and stayed in the trees, looking for any sign of his brother. When he passed a hut built of wood and mud he saw hid brother.

The limp form of a dwarf hung from a post, the spike atop it running between his shoulder blades and out his neck. Gormrim's head hung, facing the sky, and apart from his hands which were tied behind him and nailed to the post, he hung loose from the wood.

Thorek assumed the Chaos Dwarves had tried to turn Gormrim, but had been unsuccessful. And having an un-taintable dwarf Hammerer in the camp, even as a slave, was something they were not going to risk.

Thorek once again felt rage building within him. He gripped the pole of his axe and charged into the camp. A flurry of steel flashed into the night, rending flesh from bone and slicing heads from shoulders. Thorek's anger pushed him far beyond his ability and he effortlessly made his way through the area, carving what meat stood before him. The Chaos Dwarves had no chance, but after the massacre, Thorek was beyond exhausted. His rage had forced him past his threshold and his body ached with a terrible fury. He collapsed onto the dead orc in front of him and passed out instantly.

When he awoke, he took the body of his brother and buried it, piling the bodies of the orcs and dwarves in front of the grave as an offering of apology. Thorek knew he hadn't failed his brother, he had done all he could, but he still felt guilty.

He made his way to Karaz-a-Karak and after stocking up on food and ale and selling what loot he found in the camp, he made his leave for the Empire to find work and start afresh.

Within the empire Thorek was taken in by two High elves, who designed weapons and oversaw their construction. Thorek smithed for many years and the hospitality shown to him by the Elves was shocking, but appreciated. This gave him a new respect for Elves, and though he was still not fond of their kind, he felt more understanding of their differences and was more willing to accept their friendship.

After many years as a smithy Thorek was rooting through his things when he came across his mother's necklace. Holding it in his hands, he felt all his sadness and anger and stress flow into the ruby, and he was calmed. The necklace had no real magical power, but the bond he shared with his family gave the necklace a subtle power.

He decided to leave the worker's life and find a place where he could battle the forces of destruction and punish evil for the loss of his family. He traveled the Old World for 2 months, searching for a clan or guild he could be a part of. He then came across the Hall of Adrashtai Quasa Shelteth, and approached, hoping for acceptance.
